UNCLE SEGUN GEORGE, A GODLY HUMANIST. I still don't have words for the pains in my heart as a result of the news of this fine gentleman's succumb to the coronavirus decease. It should not have been you, Dr Olusegun George at all! Uncle Segun, a highly competent medical doctor who used his profession to advance the course of humanity. He was a complete humanist with the garb of godliness. I became very close to you during my quest for a musical self identity, by trying to launch myself into the world of Choral music in a different way. Uncle Ṣẹ́gun, you was there gìdìgbà for me. You gave us all the support we ever needed, financially, morally and medically. Our artistic director then, Charles Effiom O’Neil of blessed memory, whom you personally took care of when he was struggling with renal failure, will rejoice in heaven today that a Saint is joining him in God’s abode. I remember when I had a terrible fever one Sunday morning in 1997, and I was taken to the church clinic. You promptly examined me, and said “Oya, hospital straight”. So I was transported to your Jayeola hospital and was placed on admission where I received treatment and everything for about a week, all for free! Can you all beat that? That’s not very common. When my marriage was in turmoil, Dr George, you stood firm to help restore hope and sanity. By the time my son, Eniola Àìná was born in your Jayeola Hospital, you drove all the way to Òjòdú to come and inform me. That was pure love! I will miss those ever present enchanting smiles of yours, your simplicity and your readiness to help at the slightest hint. Can I ever forget your jovial reports to anyone you see, that I refused to teach you piano, and that you would shock me one Sunday when I see you playing the Organ during the service. I will miss the basketball “time up” sign that you used to give me each time we met. In short, I will miss a lot of things about you, Uncle Ṣẹ́gun George. You loved God. You loved his most amazing creations. You exhibited this love without pomp and pageantry. You were never loud in anything, but your works will continue to resonate in the highest amplitude for many years to come. May God grant you eternal rest and may God himself console us all, and especially your aged mother, your darling equally wonderful wife, the children and your entire family. Good night Uncle Ṣẹ́gun!
